Computer Maintentance
There are many things you can do to help your computer from functioning well through the day-to-day use.  Below are a few tutorials for "cleaning your computer" to your computer can run at its optimal performance.
 
 
Disk Cleanup
To remove files stored on your hard disk that you no longer use, follow these steps:
 
  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  2. Right-click the disk in which you want to free up space, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the General tab, and then click Disk Cleanup.
  4. Click the Disk Cleanup tab (if it is not already selected), click to select the check boxes next to the files that you want to remove, and then click OK.
  5. Click Yes to the proceed with this action, and then click OK. 
 
Remove Temporary Internet Files

To remove Temporary Internet Files, follow these steps:

 

  1.  Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
  3. On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
  4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
  5. Click OK.

 

Defragment Disk

This article describes how to defragment your disk drive volumes and describes the limitations of using Disk Defragmenter Microsoft Management Console (MMC) that is included with Windows XP.

  1. Open My Computer.

  2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
  4. Click Defragment.

Spybot (Spyware Cleaner)

A good free download of a spyware cleaner is Spybot.  Download link is to the center of this linked webpage and follow directions with the installation of this software.

 
 
Revo Uninstaller

A good free download of a unintalling software is Revo Uninstaller.  Where the built-in and sluggish Windows Add or Remove Programs option fails, freeware Revo picks up the slack. It builds out a useful feature set on top of a fairly light, 1.5MB installation. Launching Revo fires up the Uninstaller screen, which shows icons and titles of all programs installed on your machine. You can change the View to List or Details, if you'd like more information.
